Losing Our Marbles

Tootles, a character in the movie,
"Peter Pan," lost his marbles. They
were his memories, his ability to
remember and a variety of mental
skills. He was old and he had lost his
mind. The fantasy was he finally
found his marbles.

It is a metaphor for what happens as
we get older, and scientists say that
it is written in our DNA, though some
lose more of their marbles than others.
The truth is that our brains are like
muscles and they need a workout
every day.

Yet like the many different colors in
my three folk art paintings, we may
invision the same marbles in different
ways. We know that we can all keep
our marbles much longer if we stay
healthy and exercise of brains.

The scientific journals report o
advances and one day in the future
we won't lose any of our marbles.
As for me I have great compassion
for all of those who are slowly losing
their minds. One day we may be
those people who are like Tootles,
but they may never find their marbles.

Inside of Us

Inside of us there are many things
and we think in words or pictures;
some are black and white but many
are beautiful coors and some are very
shiny to attract on attention. Our
imaginations embrace words and
pictures and create very new things.

Inside us us there may be scars and
pain caused by abusive people so often.
Inside of us is the face of our first love
who captured our hearts and somtimes
broke them. Inside of us is what we
believe in and the actions we take
because of them.

Inside us us are words, thoughts
pictures and faces of enemies,
friends and loved ones. The question
is which one of them will get our
attention and fill our lives with pain,
anger or happiness and love. Inside
of each of us is our need for love and
acceptance.

Cat's

Imaginations

And

Dreams

My cat Malok is very smart and
she learns things O so quickly.
I goes beyond our daily rituals.
She figures things out and tries
out new things on me which
usually work toward her benefit.

Well if she can do that it shows
me she has an imagination and
some days I think she is
imagining about be a very big cat
like a ferocious tiger, yet she is
usually very kind and gentle.

I believe my cat Malok has dreams
just like human beings. If she
could speak she might tell me
all about her dreams about being
a bid ferocious tiger. Before you
doubt what I think, take time to
answer "What do you dream about?"

Playing At Any Age

When I was a child I learned how to
play and to have fun every day. But
then I grew up and learned about
hard work and for too many years
there was no time to play. But finally
I learned that my inner child needs
to play.

I learned that while playing my mind
finds the freedom to answer questions
and come up with solutions to so many
problems. I also learned that playing
gives us new energy to do things and
fills us with new hope and joy for all
of our days.

I learned that I don't always have to
take life so seriously. I learned that
it was okay to play and laugh and
YES relax. Such an important
lesson that doesn't need seriousness
but should be taken seriously.

Colorful Complex People

I originally got the idea for this painting from a
novel I was writing about people whose senses
were represented by colors and they could use
them to have a lot of ways to connect deeper into
the world arround them. They experienced more
than us is so many ways through O so many senses.

But then I learned something new about us. We are
complex beings and filled with so many treasures.
We call them many things, talents, skills, and abilities,
intelligences, gifts, and O so much potential. Yet we
have only begun to explore all of those things that
each of us has. But that is the true joy of our
journeys.

The colors of the people in my folk art painting
represent so many things about us, and we have
just begun to explore all of our gifts and our
wonderful potential. But first we must let go
of the many ways we limit ourselves and then
begin our colorful and wonderful journeys.

What IF?

What if one day the way we practice
medicine changes, and instead of
cutting bodies in surgery or killing
cancer cells with radiation therapy
doctors communicate with our DNA
and then our body heals any given
part of our its self.

Our bodies know change organs
that have failed; can give us new
hearts, lungs and livers. Our bodies
can make our cells right again and
correct the cells that are  not
functioning properly. Science is
getting closer, already can use stem
cells to cure cancer and other things.

One day soon people will look at how
our doctors practice medicine and say
that it is very primitive.
